Lab-on-a-Chip SystemsLab-on-a-chip systems combine numerous functional elements to transport, mix, filter, isolate, incubate and analyze tiny samples of liquids. For all processes the handling of fluids is required. Numerous approaches employ passive fluid control techniques, such as capillary forces. In some applications external actuation means are additionally used for a directed transport of the media. Examples are rotary drives applying centrifugal forces for the fluid transport on the passive chips. For more targeted processes, on-chip, active transport systems can help to optimize performance. Key components in such applications are integrated micropumps to drive the fluidics. In these instances, the mp6 opens up new fields of application where it can be either, (a) a subassembly integrated on chip, (b) a part of the disposable, or (c) by integrating the micropump as an OEM component, added into the permanent, read-out unit.
