In diagnostic systems the typically required steps of sample preparation, assay protocol and corresponding detection, are brought together in a miniaturized format on microfluidic platforms. For all processes the handling of small amounts of fluids is required. Operating together with very low cost disposable cartridges, the mp6 micropump can be implemented inside the cartridge reader, pulling liquid through the fluidic system. By separating the pump from the analytes using an air volume, the pump is not contaminated, which enhances the pump’s life cycle. For further automation, the mp6 pumps can be designed as part of the disposable cartridge for high volume applications. The simple design, together with injection molded materials, enables a low cost solution.
